Murphy and Left should end unvouched TD expenses

T Murphy (Irish Examiner Letters November 29) asks Paul Murphy and other politicians of the left to justify their benefits under tax legislation not applicable to any other citizens.

Murphy and Left should end unvouched TD expenses

I presume he is referring to the situation where all other citizens (other than the 226 TDs and Senators) would receive income tax bills if their employers paid their travel costs from their home to work.

The lucky 226 receive substantial unvouched untaxed monthly travel money on top of their €87,258 annual Dáil salary. Our constitution states all citizens are equal; I would love to see our politicians explain why they should be more equal than all other workers.
