Balance water charge with reduction in VAT

The 1997 Finance Act made provision for the replacement of water charges and for preventing local authorities from charging householders for water.

Balance water charge with reduction in VAT

Since 1998, we have been paying an extra 2% VAT on purchases and an extra 5% on road tax and VRT.

These tax increases have to be yielding all of Irish Water’s requirements.

The Government is proposing to charge everybody twice for water.

In my opinion, the Government should be forced to reduce the VAT on purchases, road tax and VRT, if they insist on new water charges.
