Pro-Palestinian groups choose not to acknowledge the victims of Hamas
It’s widely accepted that those who rule Gaza misuse funds and perpetrate human rights abuses on Gazans but groups who claim to be fighting for Palestinian rights never raise these issues.
Nor do they ever raise the discrimination faced by Palestinians in neighbouring Arab countries where — being regarded as non-citizens — they are refused the rights of franchise or access to health and education.
At this point in time, the Syrian regime has imposed a starvation siege on the Palestinian residents of the Yarmouk district of Damascus. However, it’s being almost universally ignored by those who claim to fight for Palestinian rights.
The letter referred to above accuses me of not exhibiting “empathy or sympathy” for the victims of the Gaza conflict. The fact that I don’t exhibit such emotions in a short letter does not mean I don’t feel them. However, if not exhibiting feelings of empathy or sympathy denotes a callous attitude, then what are we to make of the indifference shown by self-styled pro-Palestinian groups who ignore the Palestinian victims of Hamas and other Arab regimes?
