Greens did nothing to fix our ailing water network
I do not waste water. I reuse it. I resent deeply Ms White’s statement that I am “incapable of turning off the water while I brush my teeth”
This cheap shot at her political opponents, which catches me in the cross-fire, is insulting.
The government of Fianna Fail and the Green Party set the stage for the introduction of water charges. But not a single, real conservation measure was introduced. In fact, investment in our water infrastructure was zero.
The Green/FF government made a complete hames of managing our water services. The current government has exacerbated the problems. They have failed to manage our most fundamental resource. This government created the monster that is Irish Water and they forced through the legislation that makes it the most unaccountable, jobs-for-the-lads quango in the history of the State.
I can’t make my mind up if White’s article reminds me of a drunken spat in a nightclub toilet or a boring history lesson. Now, if anyone is interested in recent history, think back to last Saturday week, November 1.
Ordinary families filled the street of every town and city, tens of thousands of people asserting a very clear message: our water is not for sale, repeal the legislation and abolish the quango. We will not pay again for our own water.
