Warped planning and wretched windmills destroying the beauty of Crosshaven
It was a beautiful October day and we were surprised beyond belief at the beauty of the countryside, particularly the stretch passing by Drake’s Pool between Carrigaline and Crosshaven.
Nature had unfolded all its splendour in a profusion of autumnal colour. Boats sat calmly on their moorings and the trees were ablaze with a profusion of reds, yellows, browns and greens. And then it happened.
Just a little beyond we were confronted and accosted by an abomination of extreme ugliness dominating this idyllic scene – a monstrous windmill standing awkwardly and ill at ease – a gross incursion and a visual assault, totally out of character and an ugly blot on such an historical and beautiful place.
After the shock, we wondered who in their right mind or what warped planning and political system would sanction this monstrosity and debase such a unique place?
Later, we realised that this, in microcosm, is a brutal and grotesque monument to what the money men and politicians, devoid of vision or empathy have planned; the desecration of this and the rest of our beauty spots throughout the country. On our behalf, they continue to flog our very soul, our environment, our heritage and anything else for the mighty dollar and the euro.
We, once a proud nation and the so called rebel county, are complicit in this destruction if we don’t stop the rotten system before further irreparable damage is done.
