The postal code debacle is like e-voting shambles
We like to share this history with our school-children, tourists and in full colour coffee table tomes. Running in parallel is another, less glorified history. In this version, corruption, willful ignorance and incompetence are blended together at all levels of the State to give us such shambles as the Beef Tribunal, the Hepatitis Scandal, and a shameful mix of abuse of the young and the old.
One of the latest slow motion car crashes involves the cobbling together of old technology and blinkered thinking at senior levels to give us Eircodes. The truth of the matter is that those involved in deciding how Irish post-codes might work seem to be simply incapable of understanding what is wrong with Eircodes.
We are heading for another hilarious sequel to the e-voting scandal. Most of us are too busy gaping at Joan Burton and juggling bills, to even notice. Kudos to Mr Tobin (Letters, October 14) for raising the issue.
We will soldier on with the mess that will be foisted upon us, as we seem to do with all the other guff. All that history seems to have made us into a remarkably tolerant and resistant race.
