If God exists, then he is to blame for the Devil

Tom Fitzgerald (Irish Examiner, Letters ) says if one believes in God one must believe in the Devil, an evil entity that causes human suffering.

If God exists, then he is to blame for the Devil

But who made the Devil and who lets him continue to exist?

And is an all-powerful God not all powerful and immune to the Devil’s evil?

The only other alternative is that God wants the Devil to carry on what he’s doing, in which case God would be equally to blame (or more so, since he allows his continued existence).

I cannot see that this is not obvious to even the most devout believer.
