Does Burton believe the Irish are too rich?

Joan Burton’s outburst about “extremely expensive phones and cameras” proves two things: Labour under Burton will be no different to Labour under Eamon Gilmore; the Government thinks the Irish people are not poor enough.

Whatever their cosmetic policy differences, they are united in believing money does not suit the Irish psyche and we (but not they) would do well to have less of it. They have been doing their best to rectify this, slowly flaying Paddy alive. A lot done, but there’s more to do. Paddy must still have a few bob stuffed away under the mattress. Water charges might be just the ticket.
