Anger flows freely at anti water meter group meeting

The meeting was organised by the Peoples Convention Youghal to discuss Irish Water and the installation of water meters. The meeting was also attended by members of the Ballyphehane South Parish Says No to Property & Water Tax group. Residents had a number of questions with regard to Irish Water and the Government. Many of those who expressed an interest were angry at what they believed was a total disconnect between the ordinary people of Ireland and an elitist ruling few.

Some of the questions raised at last Saturday’s meeting were: can Irish Water deduct money from my wages, dole, bank account?; if I refuse to pay can Irish Water shut off my supply?; will I be fined or even jailed if I cannot pay or refuse to pay?; what can I do to stop the installation of these meters?; can I be fined or jailed if I remove the meter?; I can’t afford to pay any more taxes or charges so what do I do?; what are the local Councillors doing about this? and why does Irish Water want to know how many bedrooms there are in my house?
