A matter of listening to one’s conscience

"For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so" — Hamlet.

A matter of listening to one’s conscience

I see that the ex-chairman of the Central Remedial Clinic has insisted that he and his colleagues have a “clear conscience” as they did nothing wrong (July 4, 2014).

I’m sure the bankers and politicians who wrecked our economy could also claim likewise. The same claim could be made by the church authorities who turned a blind eye to child abuse for the greater good of “Mother Church”. There is no doubt also that the top businessmen/women who fled our shores because of bankruptcy felt aggrieved that they could not get a fair hearing here. Shakespeare’s definition of conscience as quoted above could even be used to his advantage by Machiavelli who promoted the definitive version of statecraft without morality!
