European Commission unfair to petitioners

I have recently learned that a petition containing the signature of almost 2 million people from 20 EU member states was submitted to the European Commission under the ECI (European Citizens Initiative) which followed from the Lisbon Treaty.

European Commission unfair to petitioners

This called for legislation to be debated to ensure that no EU funds are spent on destructive embryonic research. The number of signatures far exceeded the minimum 1 million signatures needed to require the European Commission to consider a proposal. This was rejected by the European Commission.

Is it any wonder that the citizens of the various states that make up the EU, are becoming more and more disillusioned with the idea that the European Commission is a democratic institution, in touch with its members, when the European Commissioner for Research Innovation & Science Ms. Máire Geoghegan Quinn, and her colleagues, have disregarded the ethical arguments put forward in that petition?
