In the rush to fix yet another outrage on the Catholic Church and rush to judgement across the global press it is clear the usual commentariat have learned nothing from the Fr Reynolds debacle.

Accepting that the infant mortality rate was significantly higher in mother-and-baby homes than it was across the population as a whole, we need to remember the orders who ran the homes did not reject these women.

It was their families who did that.
