THEY are sick of the sight of us. One of the nonsenses talked about elections and politics is how disillusioned we the people are with our politicians.

We have lost out on a fleeting, now passed opportunity for change

Believe me, our disenchantment bears no comparison to how disillusioned they are with us. The moaning, the abuse, the surly answer to the knock on the door, or worse, though it’s almost a relief, the refusal even to answer the door at all. And if all of that is not bad enough, amplifying what must be listened to in person is the complaining aired as sadistic entertainment on radio.

Midnight marks the beginning of the end of this campaign. Tomorrow a moratorium is enforced on the airwaves, creating a restful election-free zone. Newspapers may continue the debate, however; then polling day is Friday. After that it’s the counts. By-elections, local elections, and European elections; who’s in, who’s out, and the fallout.
