I was heartened recently to see Stormont’s First Minister Peter Robinson declare everyone equal under the law, following the arrest by PSNI of Gerry Adams.

But I having a nagging suspicion that he is mistaken, a suspicion that might disappear if other politicians unquestionably responsible in law for the oversight of Crown Forces/“Security Forces” in the North of Ireland during the troubled years, had their collars felt by PSNI. A prime example would be the veteran legislator Lord Carrington, who was responsible for the War Office during the most violent years.
