Contrary to the claim made in the letter, ‘Cork-New York Flights will never take off’, (Irish Examiner, April 9) the existing runway at Cork Airport can accommodate a transatlantic service with a Boeing 757 aircraft.

This aircraft is capable of flying from Cork to JFK Airport on the main runway at Cork Airport of 2,133 metres.
