People of Fingal should send election message

The people of Dublin have, once again, been denied the opportunity to participate in real democracy, with the rejection by Fingal county councillors of the plebiscite to directly elect a lord mayor for Dublin.

I hope the people of Fingal will send a clear message to these councillors, in May, and demonstrate a lesson in democracy to these so-called public representatives.

The real issue is about the loss of power for Fingal County Council.

In the last few weeks of door-step canvassing, you would have been forgiven for believing that potholes and “other fix-it issues” were being paid from the canvassers’ wallets and not from public money.

What a missed opportunity for an international capital city. Shame on Fingal councillors.
