In recent times we have seen Bono deliver a dressing down to European leaders in Dublin, to the wealthy of the world in Davos, and now we hear he is the eighth most powerful person on the planet.

He also awarded a prize to the heroic schoolgirl, Malala, who risked her life for an education.

In her acceptance speech she called for the right of every child to an education, which is to be applauded. Education is funded by taxes. Mr Hewson’s rock group have moved business interests abroad in order to pay less tax at a time when this country is on its knees and needs everyone to pay their share to fund education and protect the venerable from poverty.
