Will bankers never learn? Not commercial bankers who played a major role in wrecking the economy, this time the regulators are embarking on the slippery path of greed and promises of a honey pot of bonus payments.

What people will find infuriating is they already have access to the gravy train. Employed by the new Central Bank set up to replace the old one which did not distinguish itself in Ireland’s costly collapse, the 1,400 staff will also qualify for other juicy ‘reward models’.

Making matters worse, Finance Minister Michael Noonan, who trenchantly opposes the notion of bankers getting fat bonuses, is powerless to do anything about it. Will things never change?
