Boards are ineffective

I am surprised that the efficacy of boards/governors has not been questioned in recent controversies.

In my long experience of sitting on such bodies, they do not perform well.

Where the chairperson and CEO are ad idem, they are usually able to pass any measure.

Executive directors are an integral part of that team, which plans the outcomes of each meeting.

Non-executive board members often represent vested interests only. The board is given selected information.

Ironically, I believe that boards of ‘not for profit’ organisations are among the worst examples, especially those that use volunteers to carry out much of their work.
