Tour of the Somme
Also planned is a visit to the Commonwealth Graves Commission cemetery in Etreux, Aisne, France where there are 93 soldiers from the Royal Munster Fusiliers buried.
All these men were killed on August 27, 1914, on the British Expeditionary Force retreat from Mons. This heroic defence by these men of the Royal Munster Fusiliers was known as the Battle of Etreux. Most of these men came from Cork, Kerry, Limerick and Clare and the Royal Munster Fusiliers Association will hold a 100th centenary ceremony there on August 27 next. I would like to make contact with any relatives of those killed or taken prisoner.
