Raining on our parade

As always, Terry Prone’s articles (Opinion, February 10) are thought-provoking, but, this time, I imagine, not in the way she intended.

Raining on our parade

She wrote about people who called for a boycott of New York’s St Patrick’s Day parade because they were excluded. It was aimed at the LGBT people, but it has universal application to anyone who wants to destroy reputations. She said the creative brains “working in advertising and technology in the US {should} come up with witty ways to subvert every section of the parade, so that the point gets repeatedly and inescapably made, but the fun doesn’t stop”.

In other words, fling malicious mud and most of it will stick. She dresses this up as a campaign of “flair and humour”, for which, she says, “the world has a never- sated appetite”. Never let the truth spoil a vicious, but humorous campaign.
