Minister must act over adult adoptees

I am writing in reference to Conall Ó Fatharta’s report (Irish Examiner, February 4) and to thank him for highlighting this situation.

Minister must act over adult adoptees

The minister is neglecting the responsibility of her role and neglecting to enforce the human rights of adult adoptees and mothers searching for each other who are still having their efforts frustrated and hampered. It’s so frustrating for these people and the minister is duty-bound to help.

Mothers and children who have sought, and are still seeking, reunions for 60 years are still meeting the same obstructions as outlined in the movie Philomena. This has got to stop.

This reaction by our own ministers is shameful and embarrassing and can only result in UN interference if left unchecked.

My own mother and grandmother battled for years and sadly my grandmother has passed away. How many more will die while the minister buries her head and embarrasses Ireland as people from around the world continue to seek justice and their own personal information?
