Put limit on legal aid

I agree 100% with Declan O’Connor’s views (Letters, Jan 13) on the judiciary and the need for a wake-up call.

Another point I would like to make is the cost of free legal aid to the State or, should I say, to us, the taxpayers. Time and time again, we see the same offenders up before the courts and availing of free legal aid.

Everyone deserves a chance and maybe a second or third one, but surely that should be it? Why not make a weekly deduction in their social welfare allowances to cover the cost of the legal aid provided? I bet that would put a stop to their criminal activity.
