EU ignored the wars in the former Yugoslavia

Your recent editorial (Jan 2) describes the European Union as the factor which, “more than anything”, makes a recurrence of a world war seem impossible.

True, but only for the west of our continent.

This year, Europe will mark the centenary of the start of World War I, which began with an assassination in Sarajevo.
