Cheerleaders to mob

Like Declan O’Connor, I am all in favour of not giving too many plaudits to powerful politicians (Letters, Dec 23). But I have reservations about the mob that boos politicians at public gatherings.

Cheerleaders to mob

The minister who was the object of the booing is, as O’Connor says, “singing from the same hymn sheet” as fellow ministers who are inflicting pain on constituents.

But how many of those who are now booing were cheering back in the boom, when decisions were being made that bankrupted the country?

The powerful people making those disastrous decisions were celebrities then. The minister mentioned in Declan O’Connor’s letter is not. They were also in widespread receipt of the plaudits of the mobs of that time.
