According to your columnist Victoria White (Dec 5), Deputy Colm Keaveney’s move to Fianna Fáil “looks careerist”. Who knows?

Careerism and opportunism, however, remain ubiquitous in Irish politics as elsewhere. Idealism, by contrast, appears conspicuous by its absence. Is politics a profession or a vocation?
