Irish interest in Scottish independence

Irish people are naturally very interested in the move towards an independent Scotland.

In a recent study I documented how James Joyce and the Irish nationalist leader, Arthur Griffith, wrote that the soul ofa country can be weakened through being governed for centuries by another people and can develop into a ‘slave people’.

It is not generally to the advantage of a smaller country to lie adjacent to a larger country. The interests of the latter usually determine the degree of interference or levels of subjugation involved.
