An eye for an eye

We are informed that Ireland has withdrawn funding to an anti-drug programme in Iran because of concern that drug traffickers detected under this scheme were being sentenced to death.

My question is, what is wrong with executing drug traffickers? Perhaps Ireland needs to review its current laws relating to drug trafficking to include the death penalty. Many would suggest our present system is very lenient on drug trafficking.
