WHAT would President Michael D Higgins say to his 30-year-old self? “Well, kiddo, you’ll be glad to know that I’m still a socialist. Unlike most others who start out wanting to reshape the world, my idealism has survived the ravages of aging.

The President’s ‘socialism’ is a bit rich

“Not just that, but I now have a platform to spread the word. I’m president these days, living in the Aras, pulling in quarter of a mill’ and another eighty grand or so in expenses. And I never have to put my hand in my pocket. Take it from me, my 30- year-old-me, socialism rocks.”

President Higgins has been attracting rare criticism. Most people have been impressed by his performance in office, since he was elected in 2011. Everybody is happy to have him, out there, representing the country.
