It’s the innocent who suffer the most

I find Fergus Finlay’s (Opinion, Sept 3) support for a US attack on Syria baffling, given his position as advocate for children’s welfare.

Who does he think will suffer the most if such an attack occurs? Does he seriously believe the ‘smart bombs’ spin? The US could do much to bring the slaughter in Syria and elsewhere in the region to a halt— maybe a withdrawal altogether from the region should be on the agenda. But what we should have learned by now is that violence really does beget more violence — and it is always the innocent that suffer the most from it.
