Pat takes a gamble

I understand why Pat Kenny made the big jump in the autumn of his years.

It is not a money consideration. He is financially comfortable, his personality and talent established nationally and his family reared.

What we fail to remember, the presenter worked a lifetime in the same environment, under the same guidelines, disciplines and people to achieve a reward he was entitled to ending his career — but to him, mentally, still not adequately satisfying.

Now that he is free from these shackles he can afford to gamble on his abilities and hopefully exploit his unexplored potential of mind and body.

Pat Kenny’s playing field is going to be a new and adventurous one. If his performance doesn’t satisfy his new employer and he fails to conquer the more seasoned talent of RTÉ so be it. He is still the gainer with more experience — and God loves a trier.
