Reject Church blessing

This letter is in reply to the article (Irish Examiner, Aug 12) on the consecration of Ireland on Aug 15.

Does no one remember the Spanish Civil War? Doesn’t any one here remember the atrocities committed by the Catholic Church then and how they controlled that country for almost half a century along with the fascist dictator, Franco?

I don’t think Ireland should want a blessing from the Catholic Church. When the Catholic Church blessed Spain they managed to murder nearly half a million people.
