Have your own say on legislative development

There is a perception that the legislative process is disengaged from the people. To address this, and to have better law, many Oireachtas committees frequently invite members of the public, groups, and organisations to have a say early in the development of legislation.

Have your own say on legislative development

The Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality is currently seeking written submissions, from interested groups or individuals, in relation to the Heads of the Gambling Control Bill, which are available at: justice.ie/en/JELR/Pages/PB13000296

The committee will consider any written submissions and may invite a number of contributors to public hearings, should it feel that this is necessary.

Written submissions, preferably by electronic means, should be sent to the clerk of the committee at controlofgambling@oir.ie.

In addition to seeking submissions on the Heads of the Gambling Control Bill, as part of a busy work programme, our committee is also inviting written submissions on the subjects of restorative justice and integration, multiculturalism and combatting racism, for reports it is undertaking in relation to these topics.

These are opportunities for your readers to have an input into the parliamentary process.

In turn, this supports politicians in fulfilling their work as parliamentarians in drafting legislation for the public good.
