Upper House abolition is just a low stunt

CAN you imagine Richard Bruton’s reaction when he got the call? The instruction from Enda Kenny may have been: “Richard, I want to get rid of this Seanad thing, and you’re the best man for the job.”

Upper House abolition is just a low stunt

Poor old Richard. Bad enough that Kenny muscles-in on every job announcement. Now, he has stuck it to Bruton, charging him with getting the Seanad-abolition referendum over the line. If ever there was a chalice poisoned with the bitter taste of failure, this is it.

You don’t have to be a fan of the Seanad, or believe it should remain as an arm of the Oireachtas, to recognise the stunt being pulled by Kenny and those around him.
