US judge enjoys senior status

I am writing to correct an error in your article on the honorary conferring at UCC held last Friday, Jun 7.

US judge enjoys senior status

Judge Donald W Molloy, for whom I read the encomium at the ceremony, is a federal judge of the US 9th Circuit. He now has senior judge status, which means he can sit in any federal district throughout the United States.

Your description of him as US district court judge, whilst an understandable error, does not capture the standing of this judge who has been a great supporter of UCC.

Judge Molloy has also been a particular supporter of both the BCL Law and Irish programme run by the Faculty of Law at UCC, and of the Irish Studies programme run in the University of Montana.
