Poor choice of words

Prof John Crown, speaking about the Seanad referendum, on Newstalk’s Lunchtime show (Jun 6) referred to members of the Vintners Federation of Ireland as ‘drug dealers’.

It is unfortunate that a man who could make a serious contribution to the debate would muddy the waters with such language.

By his logic, he and his colleagues in the medical profession, who prescribe or administer pharmaceuticals, are ‘drug pushers’.

Let’s hope he refrains from dragging this debate lower, in the run-in to the referendum, and articulates his points without using tabloid language.
