Local property tax doesn’t benefit ‘local’

Last year I filled out the local property tax form and handed it in to the local council with a cheque, no problem.

Local property tax doesn’t benefit ‘local’

Last week I did the same only to be told they have nothing to do with it and I was to send it on to the Revenue Commissioners. I assumed it would be collected locally and spent on our roads in urgent need of repairs, but it’s going into the big national purse.

I feel payment should be taken on Jun 1 instead of January and give householders a chance to get over their Christmas costs.

So to me it’s not a Local Property Tax, it’s a national collection to pay off a debt not caused by the householders.

They are an easy target, even though it’s only a small drop in the ocean.

We have no choice paying for other people’s mistakes.
