Playing to gallery

President Higgins has castigated the very austerity measures his Labour Party colleagues so enthusiastically embrace.

If the office of president really wants to drive home this point then resign the office on the grounds of democratic, unconstitutional, EU dictatorship. That would really give this Fourth Reich, economical enforced government a death blow.

What a message that would send out to the puppet masters in Europe.

However, the big pension, and lump sum pay off, will ensure that this is only playing to the gallery, and will soon be forgotten.
