Mother’s life is priority

John B Reid (Letters, Apr 23) has not learnt the lesson of the Halappanavar tragedy: That there is no way that equal consideration to both the life of the mother and of the child can be given.

In any event, surely it is the life of the mother, already known, loved and needed by her family and friends, whose loss would leave a vast hole in the lives of so many, that must, under all circumstances, take precedence.
