Unfair to put the boot into loyal servant O’Gara

It was with disgust I read the Irish Examiner (Mar 4) about Ronan O’Gara getting the boot by Declan Kidney.

It was appalling treatment of O’Gara over the last few months placing him on the subs bench while those not fit to clean his boots were awarded the position ahead of him.

O’Gara was called on only when those who were substituted ahead of him failed to produce the results.

A failed drop goal was the only blemish on a masterly display against the Ospreys. Unlike so many times in the past O’Gara this time failed to complete the miracle kick. I watched Ronan complete so many great games for Ireland and with no evidence of his failing, as evidenced by the game against Ospreys last week, all genuine rugby followers were appalled with Kidney and his cohorts in the Rugby Union.

Thank God for the Irish Examiner who give honest accounts of the weekend matches. Well done Ronan and thanks for giving us so many exciting games.
