For many with phobias of lifts and being stuck in one, the scenario that Ministers Kathleen Lynch and James O’Reilly endured in Grangegorman, though horrendous, was tempered by having doctors and psychiatrists entrapped with them.

Hopefully the psychiatrists took the opportunity to initiate a discussion on the nature and dynamic of ‘entrapment’ and most of all the repercussions of such entrapment. They could usefully illustrate this by speaking of the cutting of the mobility benefits and the Motorised Transportation grants.

Can we now hope that the ministers have completed their ‘agonising’ of the scrapping of these benefits and now fully understand that ‘entrapment’ aka ‘imprisonment’ is not good for mental health, or confidence, or rights to freedom.
