I was very glad to hear the Taoiseach’s apology to the women who had the misfortune to find themselves in a Magdalene Laundries. It was the right thing to do and long overdue.

All the coverage of this issue in the media over the last few weeks has brought back some childhood memories to me.

When I was young, in the 1970s, my father had a part-time job in the Peacock Lane laundry in Cork. He used to do some maintenance on the machinery there.
