Stalingrad shame

Dr Michael Pravica is right when he reminds all of us of “the fact that Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and other fascist WWII dictators, left a devastating legacy of racism, hatred, and evil in their wake” (Letters, Feb 4).

It is therefore depressing that on the same day, you report that a city in Russia will be known again as Stalingrad, the name of one of the greatest, most murderous tyrants of the last century.

The memory of what happened before and during the Second World War, when totalitarianism devastated Europe, should help us Europeans put the problems that we have at the present time in perspective.
