Fergus Finlay rightly highlights the ‘political scandal’ of ministers succeeding in fast-tracking projects in their own constituencies (Jan 29).

Media late to the table

The job of the media in a democracy is to expose the tendency of people whom we elect to high office, to spend taxpayers’ money, giving advantage to themselves and their constituents, to the disadvantage of others.

It is a pity Fergus Finlay and the rest of the media did not do a lot more of that during the Celtic Tiger period.
