UCC hoping to digitise doctoral research

University College Cork Library is embarking on a project to bring the riches of UCC doctoral research to a wider audience by digitising theses from its collection so that they will be available to everybody online.

UCC hoping to digitise doctoral research

But first, UCC needs to track the 2,000 plus students who have completed their PhD since 1939 and get their permission to have their work digitised.

As copyright for UCC theses remains with the author, UCC is calling on PhD graduates to nominate their thesis and grant permission for their work to be scanned and made freely available through CORA http://cora.ucc.ie, the online archive of UCC’s research publications.

There will be no cost to the graduate and no cost to those who wish to consult their thesis. Authors will also enjoy increased access to their research, a visible record of their involvement with the UCC research community and a place in the permanent digital archive.

If any readers are interested in participating or have any queries please contact Breeda Herlihy at UCC Library, email: cora@ucc.ie or telephone 021-4205109.
