This rural drinking permit idea isn’t a runner

I can’t help wondering, will a garda be present in all pubs to issue a permit to drive — (motion passed in Kerry Council).

This rural drinking permit idea isn’t a runner

Will he/she be drinking tea? Or will there be a roving patrol car on call? ” Come and have a look at yer man, see if he is fit to drive?” As much as I empathise with people living in isolated areas, I don’t think this will work. Will the garda issuing the “permit” be held accountable if it turns out that the driver wasn’t fit to drive?!

Can neighbours not get together and organise a car pool — I agree that people living on out-of-the-way boreens are entitled to get out and socialise in their pub. They, more than anyone need company, chat and a few pints in the latter part of their lives.
