Sea-lice controls more stringent

It is regrettable that your correspondent, who wrote “campaigners against fish farm seek sea-lice system safety check”, failed to contact Marine Harvest Ireland (MHI) for comment, instead choosing to use a previous statement issued on a different matter.

The report quotes a number of damaging and unsubstantiated claims made in relation to the Irish aquaculture sector, claims that cannot be allowed to go uncorrected.

Most seriously, it is untrue to say that sea lice from salmon farms are causing a reduction of between 40% and 50% in wild salmon stocks.
