Flag controversy may have gone too far

I would like to congratulate Victoria White on her recent article (Jan 10).

It was truly refreshing to read such a balanced insightful media view of the terrible situation we here in Belfast are having to deal with.

Often journalists may be tempted to dismiss these sorts of protests due to the violence associated with some.

While I would never attempt to condone any violence (many of the protesters are too young to know why they are there and any responsible parent would not permit children to be anywhere near such situations), I agree with Ms White that if the national flag of any other country was taken down for similar reasons it would not be tolerated.

My greatest fear now is that it has gone too far to enable any ready solution to be found.

Such a shame, given the significant progress made in the last ten years. I think that Sinn Féin councillors, by trying to move the nationalist cause forward, have plunged us all into the dark days of the past.

God help us.
