New children’s hospital as good as referendum

In two weeks’ time, the citizens of Ireland have a chance to show they are a people of action.

Another way of demonstrating our concern for our children is to build the best National Children’s Hospital, and soon.

A prime site in central Dublin stands ready, with an adult teaching hospital in situ. Bus number 123 runs through the hospital and has a light-rail link.

The development could accommodate the Coombe maternity hospital. Every area of expertise would then be located on the one campus, with proper transport infrastructure and good access.

The only obstacle facing our sick children is our phobia of tall buildings.

This new hospital should be fast-tracked regardless of it being 10 or 30 floors high.

It is not worth the continued suffering of our sick children just to keep an empty skyline.
