Kenny’s had his ‘Time’

Matt Cooper (Opinion, Oct 12) gives Enda Kenny the old “one-two” squarely on the chin by parsing his “achievements”, or, more accurately, the lack of them.

Debunking Time magazine’s glowing promo-assessment and front-cover depictions of Kenny was an easy opener for Cooper, given its erstwhile championing of Brian Cowen as among the world’s top leaders.

So much for international “magazining” kudos.

Traipsing around foreign countries on Brazilian trade missions and waffling superbly as he goes; offering shamrocks to the US president on Paddy’s Day; and belting out plagiarised hyperbole on College Green in Obama-speak. These encapsulate Kenny’s “Taoiseachric”.

Perhaps, one day soon, he might muster the “cojones” to face the intrepid Cooper or, God forbid, the doubly-intrepid Vincent Browne in straight face-to-face “combat”. Then, we can really see what he’s made of and what he’s truly about .

In the meanwhile, we can continue to bask bleakly in the fickle fog, with the doubtfully reassuring knowledge that Time magazine will pick up the credit-tab for obfuscation, avoidance and shilly-shallowy ‘shammery’.

At least now, Enda’s been publicly “Coopered”, with all his dubious achievements laid bare on the exposed scrutiny-altar of Matt the Thrasher. The “con-harvest” is thus saved, but not the nation.
